Between the summers of 2004 and 2005, the old Director's Cabin, a cabin that was lived in by many of Birch Rock's past directors including Chief, was torn down and rebuilt into the camp's first insulated, year round structure. It was used as Director Mattson's residence on the first floor and the basement space was used for the art program. It was also used in the off-season for those visiting camp during the winter months. Sadly, a few years after it was built it burned to the ground four days before Opening Day 2008.
