The library

The Allen Kearns Library is Birch Rock's own library. Campers can sign up to go the the library as an activity (even though it has no badges), be tutored there, and check out books. The library has a large selection of books and magazines, an archive of old pictures of the camp, and some board games. There are also two old computers that are used to make the Biroca Blast. The library has a plaque above the door that says "look up laugh love and lift," a line from the song I Would Be True.

From the Birch Rock website

Promoting a love for reading has been one of the goals of Birch Rock since its inception. The Allen Kearns Library houses a fine selection of books that are recommended by many schools and our full-time teaching staff.

Tutoring at Birch Rock allows campers to work independently and successfully at their own level in areas of special difficulty and advance at their own pace. This is a wonderful opportunity to boost one's reading level, refine writing and proofreading skills or learn those basic mathematical facts. English as a second language is also offered to our campers from overseas.

One-to-one and small group instruction is available at Birch Rock under the consultation and direction of our educational specialist for an additional fee.
